In the book All the broken pieces there is a boy named Matt Pin who lived in Vietnam while the Vietnam War was going on. Matt’s mom gave him away to be safe and he got adopted by a family in the United States. Matt liked baseball so his adopted parents signed him up for school baseball. There was a boy on the baseball team that had a brother who fought in the Vietnam War and got killed. During baseball practices he would blame Matt for the killing of his brother because of Matt’s race and would be mean to him. Then their baseball coach got cancer. The baseball team had to get a new coach. One day the new coach did an activity where he scattered baseballs, soccer balls, and other stuff around the field. He put the team into partners and put Matt and the kid that didn’t like him together. For this activity one partner had to be blindfolded and had to find the stuff around the field with the help of the other partner. The other boy was blindfold and had to trust Matt to tell him where to go to get the objects. He didn’t trust Matt and would not let Matt help him so they still were on the field when everyone was done. The boy then told Matt about his brother and about how he missed him. Then Matt told him about when his younger brother followed him during the war and lost his hands and feet because of it and how he missed him too. The boy and Matt felt sorry for each other and became friends. Matt and the boy went to see their baseball coach in the hospital and he was happy to see them together. The coach recovered and came back. Matt and the boy stayed friends forever.

I read the book schooled by Gordon Korman. It’s about this boy named Capricorn who lives in a place called Garland. Garland is a place where old fashion people lived. Rain, who looked after Capricorn in Garland fell out of a tree. They had to go to the Hospital. Rain had to stay in the hospital for a couple of weeks. Capricorn had to stay with someone that used to live in Garland and her name was Mrs. Donnelly. The next day cap had to go to school but he had never been to a real school before and he doesn’t know what a lot of stuff means and what it does like when some named Zach showed him his locker he had no idea what it was.
The bully’s put Capricorn name in to be president to make fun of him. At first everyone didn’t like Capricorn but then he let people help with the Halloween dance and he was really nice. That is how he made some friends. Hugh was Capricorn friend until everyone stared to like Capricorn and he forgot about Hugh. Hugh and Zach who were enemies but were working on a plan together against Capricorn. Their plan by mistake got Capricorn beat up. That same day Rain got better and took Capricorn back to Garland in an ambulance. Everyone in the school thought Capricorn was dead because he never came back. Capricorn was upset that he didn’t get to say good bye to his friends and he was going to miss the Halloween dance. Read Schooled to find out if Capricorns friends every find out they didn’t kill him. I recommend this book to people you like school stories. I rate this book five stars.

Meet Kit
Date: 10/06/2010 | By: Olivia
Margarate Mildred kitteredge also known as Kit, is a normal 9 year old girl who loves to write news like stuff for the newspaper. It was 1934 so kit had to write on a type writer. She decided to read the newspaper articles and headlines to get good ideas of what she should write. Kit’s dad Jack lost his job, so Kit and her family are trying to keep everything they own, so they decide to let in boarders witch are people who live in your house and pay you money.
One of her writing pieces was “ It’s Not Fair!” At the end it said:
“Sometimes a person is trying to do something nice for another person and it turns sadly badly by mistake. When something bad happens and it isn’t my anyone’s fault no one should be blamed. It’s Not Fair!”
She wrote this because Stirling one of the boarders is a fan of the Reds baseball team and so is Kit, so Stirling has a picture of Ernie Lombardi the catcher for the Reds. Kit went to grab a picture of Ernie Lombardi. But when Kit came back she didn’t know that Mrs. Howard Sirlings mom was there, Kit opened the door which hit Mrs. Howard who had a tray with Kits’ mom’s best teacup on the tray and it fell to the ground along with the hot tea. After that Kit’s mom said go to your room so Kit did, so that’s how she wrote “It’s Not Fair!”
I recommend this book if you like historical fiction, and if you like books about the Great Depression. I would give this book five stars, it's a really good book.
